The breakout success of “Serial,” the podcast spun off from “This American Life” with host Sarah Koenig, has dramatically raised the profile of podcasting as a media format. Mashable’s Jason Abbruzzese reviews the phenomenon, calling the podcast an “artisanal” spoken word format.
